Perfumes for Summer

Now that weather is warming up after the chilly winters, it’s time to change your fragrance wardrobe!!! Yes, just like clothes, shoes and other accessories, perfumes and fragrances can enhance your mood if it is suitable for the occasion or season.  As for a perfect summer fragrance, perfumes that contain light floral, aquatic, citrus and fruity notes work very well in the hot summer season.

Some perfumes are specially designed to beat the hot summer days. So it is not necessary that a perfume that smells good on your colleague will also smells good on you. Every individual has different body chemistry as diet, age and the way of living determines the effect of the scent on the person’s body. The body chemistry could be changed during summers. The fragrance of the perfume depends on the time the wearer spend under the sun and the dryness of his/her skin.

A perfume that smells good in winters will not necessarily smell good in summers. It is because we change our eating habits and style of dressing according to seasons. In summers, we wear lighter clothes and perfumes wade away quickly as our skin is exposed to sun, so scents for this season are lighter. However, winter fragrances are heavy and dark as these stay longer. This is why winter perfumes don’t work in summer. Go for fruity and floral fragrances in summers as these are fresh and refreshing.

Perfume – A True Stress Buster

In today’s hectic world, we are always busy and stress has become part of everyone’s life. It is causing a number of health problems and we feel depressed. Wearing perfumes could be an easy way of relaxation!! Sounds interesting huhh… J Yes, you can release the stress and relax with the help of perfumes and fragrances!!!

Believe it or not, perfumes are perfect stress busters which can refresh one’s soul and give a sense of calm and comfort. Perfumes give us pleasure, evoke memories of tender moments, and control our mood & emotions. Choose a nice scent that brightens up your mood when you need the most.

When you shop for a perfume, make sure that you try it on your skin. Spray a perfume and then wait for half an hour because its fragrance will change later. It is because perfumes have three notes – top notes, middle notes and base notes. Top notes give you the first scent and these evaporate with a few minutes while middle notes are the personality of the perfume which appears a 15-40 minutes after its application. Base notes are the lasting scent which lingers on once the perfume has died.

For best results, always spray your scent at the right spots. Apply your perfume on neck, behind the ears and wrist pulse points, if you want to smell a delightfully perfumed scent throughout the day.

Don’t apply too much perfume. Less is more. Your perfume should be able to release your stress, not becoming a headache for people around you.
So next time, you feel little tired, exhausted or sluggish, just spray your favorite scent and lift up your spirit.

Tips To Select a Signature Perfume

With a new celebrity perfume launching in every month, it can be very hard to find the best perfume for you. Men and women spend a considerate amount every month to shop for perfumes and fragrances. Most of them find it extremely difficult and time-consuming to find a perfect signature scent.

Perfume says a lot about your personality so always take a time and choose wisely. Perfume expresses your emotions and boosts your mood. So make sure that you are choosing a fragrance that matches your personality.

When selecting a right fragrance with so many options, you should take note of a few things.

Don’t forget to do a little research before buying an expensive perfume. Browse to know about your fragrance families. Don’t buy a perfume because your favourite celebrity is endorsing it. Find a perfume that suits your personality and you should feel good when you wear it.

Don’t wear any perfume or lotion, when you go out to shop for a perfume. Don’t try more than two fragrances in one session because it would be difficult to differentiate the scents. Spray a spot, let it dry for a minute then smell it. Don’t buy right away.

Try perfume directly on your skin. Same perfume can produce different fragrance depending on who is using the perfume. It is because everyone has different body chemistry that affects the fragrance when person apply it on the skin. Always test a perfume before buying it.

Spray perfume on writs, behind the ears, neck or inner elbow joints. This way you can know the real fragrance of the perfume. Take a walk for 15-20 minutes because perfumes need time to settle. Moreover, fragrance counters are filled with so many other fragrances. Go outside and smell it in the fresh air and see how fragrance reacts to your body.

An ideal time to wear perfume or cologne is just after a bath because your skin pores will be open and will absorb the fragrance of your perfume.

Handle Fragrances with Care!!

Like your precious jewelry or designer clothes, the fragrance you wear also needs your special care and attention. You cannot afford to ignore your expensive perfume if you want to extend your perfume’s life. Most people don’t know how to wear perfume, the right way.

Many people apply too much perfumes and fragrances, which become headache for people around them. Applying an excessive perfume can do no good, when it comes to making an impression on others. It can only leave a negative statement about your presence.

Remember that your perfume should compliment your personality, not overpowers you.

Tips to use perfumes the right way:

If you want your favourite perfume to last longer, always keep it away from heat and light, especially in summer. Keep it in a cool and dark place.

Don't go for aftershave because it does not last long. Colognes are the best option if you have budget constraints. Sure, you have to shed some extra bucks but colognes last longer than aftershave.

Don’t spray you colognes or perfumes on clothes. Apply lotion if you have a dry skin as it holds fragrances the best. Spray your perfume on your wrists, behind the ears or your neck as it helps your perfume last longer.

Reapply your cologne after 3-4 hours. This will make you refreshed all day.

Things You Should Know About Perfumes

The word “perfume” is derived from the Latin phrase, “per” meaning through and “fumes” meaning “smoke”. It is comprised of alcohol, water and perfume oil. The alcohol is the main ingredient as it makes the scent emanate from the skin.

Perfumes are divided in three major types; floral, oriental and chypre. It is further divided into many sub-variations like fruity, woody, spicy, musky, aquatic etc.

If you are planning to buy perfumes, you should understand the unique language of the perfume industry. Following are the common terms which you need know while making a purchase decision:

Eau de: It is a French word which means “water of”.

Eau de Cologne (EDC): It contains about 3% perfume oil. It is a fresh fragrance mixed with citrus oils and is the lightest of all perfumes, which makes it least expensive. Interestingly, Cologne is a city in Germany where the first contemporary perfume was produced.

Eau de Toilette (EDT): It contains about 3- 8% perfume oil.

Eau de Perfume (EDP): It contains 10-15 % perfume oil. This is the most common form of perfume and is stronger than the EDT. It has a long-lasting fragrance and is much cheaper than extract perfume.

Perfume or Parfum: It contains the highest percentage of perfume oil; 25-50 %. It is the purest, strongest and most expensive of fragrance types. It also lasts longer than other scent types.
